Safety Tips For Heavy Lift SitesOur crane operators, signalers, and heavy lift professionals are thoroughly trained in crawler crane safety. As part of Buckner HeavyLift Cranes safety awareness, we also commit to training and equipping all our construction personal with the proper PPE that we may employ where lifting is performed. According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, or OSHA, there is an average of over 70 fatal crane accidents a year. We know that operating and supporting heavy lift crawler cranes is a tough job and we’re committed to sending all of our employee’s home safely at the end of each day.

Suggested Personal Protection Equipment for Lift Sites

With that consideration in mind, we provide our employees personal protection equipment, or PPE, for job sites. These are general PPE requirements for construction sites:

  • Hard hats
  • Protective eye-wear
  • Protective shoes
  • Safety gloves
  • Respiratory equipment as needed
  • High visibility clothing

General Safety Tips for Crane Sites

In addition to this general protective gear, there are some special safety tips that apply to heavy lift crawler crane sites. One of the most important things is to be sure that a trained member of the crew inspects all lifting equipment before each and every use. This individual should have the proper training, experience, certifications to recognize defects and potential hazards.

He or she also needs to have the authority to stop operations until the defect can be repaired or hazard can be accounted for in the safety plan. Also, an individual must be responsible for ensuring the load pathway remains clear before beginning a heavy lift with a crawler crane.

The strategic ability to move and lift heavy objects is critical for construction projects. Technology has progressed so far that, to an untrained eye, these jobs may look easy to an observer. Buckner Companies has been in this business for generations and knows what it takes to successfully complete a project both on schedule and safely. Our experience has taught us to respect each job, piece of equipment, worker, and the property. We also know that it’s too late to put on a hard hat or check for obstacles after an accident has already happened, so it is vital to be prepared first.

Our employees at Buckner Companies have a firm commitment to doing those jobs that other construction companies may not touch. We continually plan and execute every lift with a commitment to safety above and beyond the requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
